Video and Web 2.0
Following the thread of Web 2.0 and social network marketing, I’m going to discuss the use of video and it’s affect on social network marketing.
Let’s look at the facts. Back Google paid $1.65 billion for YouTube, a company that was less than two years old and had never made a single cent of profit back in late 2006. A year later, their understanding of the market was obvious!
The use of video to get your sales message across would appear to the fastest growing sector of the online promotional market. Here are some statistics regarding the use of Video and YouTube:
- More than 65,000 new videos are uploaded every day
- YouTube serves up 200 million video clips every day
- And YouTube is one of the 5 most popular websites in the world!
It really is as easy as making a short video (preferably an interesting one) and uploading it for free to the YouTube website. There are a number of other video sharing sites that you can use, however, YouTube certainly ranks as one of the most popular websites in the world.
By following the simple process and, if your video is good enough, you can just about start attracting viewers in seconds. Considering that the more popular videos on YouTube are viewed by millions of viewers, the possibilities to attract a high number of viewers with a good video are unbelievable!
Imagine being able to develop a TV Commercial that you can have promoted for little to no cost across the entire Internet! I didn’t understand this potential until I saw the following video on YouTube:
This video opens the possibilities to marketing Online.

Making professional video is not cheap. It requires a skilled cameraman, a presenter, someone to write script. Making something interesting for 30 seconds is tricky. the minimal cost to make a biz presentation would be $2,000. The last Guinness beer commercial cost a lot than that maybe as much as 12 million dollars for 30 seconds.

Absolutely Leo however, the ability to produce reasonable videos to market your products is easily obtainable and I think the price will continue to decrease. I see the benefit of using Video is that you are able to show people what they can expect. People only remember or understand a tiny fraction of what they read but a considerably larger portion of what they see. Of course, they remember a lot more of what they learn through practice however, it’s not always possible to provide a hands on demo, therefore using Video is a valid method.
Your comments about making something interesting for 30 seconds is valid too, but compare that to the number of poorly written, or poorly presented sales pages - marketing is a real skill and if you can translate those skills to the different mediums available, you are well ahead of the game.
Charly.
